In the past, some of the basics were pretty good but some were a bit stiff. ![]() The basic starter package has tended to come with a basic set of arrangements in different styles. Older versions depended on the default MIDI setup of the computer, but later versions added better MIDI support and, later, GarageBand style 'virtual instruments.' ![]() Band-in-a-Box is, as of the 2005 version I have, a decidedly quirky* but reasonably useful tool for woodshedding (practicing soloing, comping etc) and quickly roughing out songs during writing - since it allows one to 'instantly' generate General MIDI arrangements from basic chord grids - 'fakebook style.'
